Methodology
Litigation work demands a higher evidentiary bar than commercial appraisal work. Every conclusion needs a stated basis. Every methodology choice needs to be defensible in front of opposing counsel. We approach legal engagements as an expert testifying under oath would — anchoring opinions in published gemological standards, citing comparable sales by name and source, and being explicit about what we're certain of versus what we're inferring. We've been engaged by federal law enforcement, patent attorneys, and major insurers, and our reports have held up under cross-examination in jurisdictions across the country.
Common questions
Have you testified in court?
Yes. David Wolf has provided expert witness testimony in valuation disputes, insurance fraud cases, and contested estate matters across multiple jurisdictions.
Do you take engagements against opposing appraisers?
Yes — methodology review of opposing appraisals is one of our most-requested services. If an appraisal you're confronting has weaknesses, we'll identify them.
How are fees structured for litigation work?
Hourly for review and consultation. Fixed-fee for formal reports. Daily/hourly rate for trial appearances. We don't accept contingency engagements — it would compromise our independence.
